Empowering Women Entrepreneurs – ‘Bringing awareness on all issues that concern women in their workplace’

Empowering women entrepreneurs and leaders in all walks of life through skill development initiatives, business networking, and pro-active representations is our prime objective,’ says Ms. Sahana Ahmed, National President of Rural Tourism Council of WICCI (Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry). WICCI is a premier All-India National Women’s Chamber empowering women entrepreneurs and leaders in all walks of life.

Supported by the massive global and influential women’s networks viz. G100, ALL Ladies League (ALL), Women Economic Forum (WEF) and SHEconomy, with 250,000 members and industry leaders worldwide, WICCI drives fundamental changes in governmental policies, laws, incentives and entrepreneurial ecosystems, with a view to robustly encourage and empower women in business, industry and commerce across all sectors and fields.

WICCI Councils have a robust inter-disciplinary & cross-sectional structure enabling both depth and width of knowledge and leadership from all strata of economy and society, forming the basis of policy changes at the top levels of decision-making as well as mindset and societal transformation at the grassroots.

Rural Tourism Council headed by Ms. Ahmed carries out various proactive measures to develop the Rural Tourism Market into development opportunities for the rural communities. ‘We have clear focus areas derived from the Draft National Strategy and Roadmap for Development of Rural Tourism in India issued by the Ministry of Tourism. The sustainability of community tourism projects, productive inclusion, and economic empowerment of rural women top the list,’ says Ms. Ahmed.

In fact, women lead 55 percent of tourism enterprises. To bring them to the mainstream market, WICCI Rural Tourism Council has entered a strategic tie-up with India Startup 360 and decided to jointly promote their first ever EWE’s Flea Market program hosted online from Dec 31, 2021, onwards.

‘This activity facilitates women’s incorporation into the mainstream market, increases their financial autonomy and improves the valuation of their work. This promises to have a positive impact on their future development,' explains Ms. Ahmed.
